We are one week past Winter Solstice. Days are imperceptibly getting longer in the Midwest, where the temps are in the upper 20's and there's snow on the ground. This ancient, celestial marker ushers in the time honored practice of kite flying. What? Yes, while driving past the local school yard today I saw two crazed people trying to control a para-foil shaped kite as it pulled them across a soccer field. I'd imagine with a snow board strapped on, they'd make pretty good time getting across town (a.k.a, kiteboarding). It was one of those double take moments. Most likely one of those Christmas gifts that you just can't wait to use.
