Lifehack: Keep Pills Together When Traveling

My allergies (anything airborne) are really getting the best of me this season.  I bought a 40 count package of Claritin to carry in my backpack.  I was soon annoyed by the fact that, like most packaging these days, the box was much bigger than the contents and once opened, did not re-close.  Inside were several ‘blister pack’ cards that contained individually perforated pills.  Each card had extra sections that did not contain any pills, so I tore those off and discarded them.  Now I was left with half-cards with one empty square on each.  Enter the hole punch and binder ring.

I’m sure you’re already there with me, but I snapped a couple of shots for the visually oriented readers out there.

The pared down blister pack with empty square:

Next, the professional whole punching:

Followed by the insertion of the binder ring:

Pills on Binder Ring

Simple as that.  Now I can toss this into my backpack, tear off pills as needed (every 24 hours), I don’t have to deal with an oversized box that won’t re-close, or pills scattered everywhere.  I’m aware that this may not work on every product out there as packaging differs from brand to brand.

What do you do with your pills / medication to make it easy to carry or organize?

I probably speak for most women when I say we can carry a whole pharmacy around in our gigantic purses. But, yeah, this idea is fantastic! You’re so brilliant. I would never think of that in a million years. Sorry about your allergies. That’s one thing I’m lucky to have avoided (so far).

Hi Kathy! If I run out of Claritin I’ll make sure I hit up a gigando purse totin’ lady to ask for more. Good tip. I am filing your sympathies away to use when I’m at my worst. Thanks.

Now that is one cool idea !
I never leave home without carrying a bottle of Tylenol. Because if I get a headache while I am out, I ruin everybody else’s day !

Jaffer! What’s the good word? It might be hard to punch holes in each of your aspirin tablets, so I think the bottle is the best way to transport them for now. Peace!

Well, I’m impressed. You’re like the Martha Stewart of geekdom … only I don’t like Martha and I do like you … so that wasn’t a good analogy.

Whatever … it’s so totally cool! I love that idea :)

Hey DM! Although I don’t follow Martha, I do take your analogy as a compliment – AND it made me laugh out loud. Glad you liked.
