WP Comment Error Fixed!

I finally got around to doing something about my broken ‘comments’ link tonight.  I sent a support ticket to my hosting provider which uses www.suresupport.com for trouble tickets.  I can say from experience that using ICDSOFT.com and SureSupport.com ensures amazingly fast and accurate answers to website problems – usually under 5 minutes and as quick as 1 minute.  Even though they admit not being WordPress experts, they take the time to evaluate the problem.

Here’s how this evenings messages went:

8:00pm: Seems I’m getting an error message (400) when clicking on the “comments” (or ‘no comments’) section of my blog:  “Bad Request: Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.”

What do you suggest I should do on my end, or is this a server issue?

Thanks for any insight.

8:05PM: It seems that it is a problem with the setup of the Wordpress template. The links look like this:

http://www.geakz.com/2008/%month%/sandisk-u3-removal-program/#respond

Please note the  %month% part.  It seems that it should have been substituted with the month for the link to work. Unfortunately, we are not familiar with Wordpress so we can’t advise you exactly how to fix this.

8:20PM: Problem solved!  Here’s the scoop:

Although you may not know the inner workings of Wordpress, you pointed me in the right direction.  It appears that there was an error in my permalink structure (%month%) as I had my options set for ‘custom’ within the WP admin panel and that was creating the problem.

I changed the following by going to the admin panel and selecting:

options —> permalinks —> change from ‘custom’ to —> ‘Date and name based’ (example: http://www.geakz.com/2008/01/07/sample-post/)

Then I clicked on “Update Permalink Structure”.

All fixed.
