One year ago today my wife and I experienced a life altering event. The birth of our son Mason. I believe it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 17.5 hours of labor. If you had stopped me on the street and asked me how long she had agonized, I might not have easily come up with the answer. But since I’ve been blogging for just over a year, I was able to pull up stories I posted mere days after this amazing phenomenon.
I know, there isn’t much difference between any blog, journal, or diary with their intrinsic value. Both provide the writer a creative and emotional outlet and allow the author or reader to reminisce at will. I did just that today, by turning back the pages of my own archives, flipping through the Rolodex of memories and that’s why blogging is good!
What I blogged about the day after my son was born (including the results of the “guess his weight” contest:
From February 14th, 2005:
Our little man Mason Alexander arrived today!
Here is a synopsis – as I really need to go get some rest. I will detail later when we get him home from the Hospital.
First!
Here is what you all guessed as the weight:
Paul W: 7lbs. 10oz
Barb N: 6lbs. 8oz.
Derek D: 7lbs. 6oz.
Michelle D: 6lbs. 2oz
MzD.: 7lbs. 4oz.
Sam N: 7lbs. 12oz.
Dick W: 8lbs 2oz.
Kaye D: 8lbs. 10.5oz.
Bob Barker: “Everyone overbid”
The winner was… drum roll
Barb!! Mason weighed 6lbs. 12oz and Barb was the closest with 6lbs. 8oz.
Congrats to her (although I will never hear the end of it).
So the plan was to originally induce the baby on Tuesday morning. But lo and behold, contractions set in starting at 7:00pm on Saturday and we found ourselves at the hospital by 8:30pm. A very long night of contractions followed by a long morning of contractions – but ALAS! Mason joined us at 1:05pm. The thirteenth hour of the thirteenth day.
Mom is resting and doing fine.
Baby has been sleeping very well.
