AdSense: Not for me.
November 28th, 2005 by Geaked

Google AdSense = Annoying Web Pages.

You’ve seen them. Web sites, specifically blogs, that cover their pages with Google AdSense adverts. It’s the same format that Google uses on their ‘Sponsored Links’ sidebar. But now bloggers can use this crap on their own. Google Ads are generated by specific keywords found within the web pages content. Then, when a visitor is lured away by clicking on a Google link, the web master gets paid (from Google – who gets paid by the advertiser). For sites that have large volumes of visitors, this can mean big bucks a month. Or so they say.
AdSense is has become the new, irritating ‘flash banner’. Instead of having a blinking, shaking, moving banner to get my attention, bloggers now load large amounts of Ad Sense links, sometimes disquised as content, and it’s hard to tell where the blog ends and advertising begins. Some blogs are set up soley for this reason. And yes, if you were wondering if anyone has found a way to scam this system of ‘click-throughs’, there is an interesting and thorough article on the subject here: JoelOnSoftware.com – “Something Rotten in AdSense

So if you use FireFox as your browser and you want to Say NO to AdSense:
Follow these instructions for installing a Grease Monkey script Here: http://kapasitor.net/articles/index.asp?view=8

This will eliminate seeing AdSense at any website you go to!

There is another drawback to adsense on blogs, and that is if you post regularly as I do(at least 3 posts per day) you display public service ads on your recent posts. Most of my ad revenue comes from visitors that land on archived pages from search engine queries. Perhaps one with a tech blog, or something like that may have a different experience.

Overall, I like adsense on my blog but I admit there are a lot of people out there that overdo it and give it a bad name.

I used to believe that ads on blogs were taboo, but I have come to believe that there is nothing wrong with trying to raise a little $$ to help cover the cost of running the site.

On another note, you can usually subscribe to their feeds. This is what I normally do, then I don’t have to look at their ads, or even visit their site for that matter, unless I see a good post I like and want to comment on.

Thanks for your input Brad. Good points you bring up here. -Sam
